QANTAS CRASH
A Qantas Plane was involved in a fatal crash on ‘the claypan’ at Tambo Qld – killing three. Locals Edna and Bill tell their eyewitness account in a film made by Tambo School students from a Q150 funded video workshop.
Chris Peckham and Zeb Schulz guided the student crew to produce a series of films based around iconic Tambo Stories. The stories are on display via touchscreen at the Tambo Telegraph Museum.

Hi Chris,
My grandfather, Robert Donaldson was killed in that QANTAS crash. He did not die on impact, but a few days later in the Tambo hospital. He was manager of Rocklands Station (Burns Philp) near Camooweal and was returning from a business trip to Melb. He got on the plane in Charleville – where he had got off the train.
Thank you so much for the video of Bill and Edna’s account of the crash. I plan to visit Tambo on 15 Sept and will take a look at the material in the museum.
Thanks again
Bill
Thanks Bill. There are so few written references to it. It’s great to hear from you.
Oopps! I mean William (Willie) Robertson Donaldson.
My mistake.
Bill
I think the only book about it is by Hudson Fysh. I’ll look it up. I have only managed to gather a few photos.
The book is Qantas Rising http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Qantas_Rising.jpg
